Purple Roses Roar Past Manasquan, Securing Championship Trophy
Our boys' basketball team etched their names in St. Rose history on Sunday, capturing the program's first ever Shore Conference Tournament title! It was a dominant defensive performance, shutting down Manasquan 48-27, proving that hard work and dedication truly pay off.
Defense Wins Championships:
From the tip-off, our defense set the tone, holding Manasquan to a mere 11 points in the second half. Sophomore Jayden Hodge led the charge with 19 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 steals, even shutting down Manasquan's sharpshooter Alex Konov completely. Teamwork was key, as the entire team communicated effectively and hustled for every loose ball. Coach Lynch's message was clear: "If we play defense the way we're capable of, it doesn't matter what we do on offense." And his players delivered!
Hodge Brothers Shine:
Jayden wasn't the only Hodge making headlines. Matt Hodge started the scoring with a thunderous dunk and finished with 11 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. These brothers, along with other talented newcomers, have transformed the St. Rose program into a powerhouse.
A Journey of Dedication:
Senior Luke Roman exemplifies the commitment and perseverance that led to this victory. Despite facing increased competition for playing time with the arrival of new talent, he embraced his role, supporting his teammates and contributing valuable minutes when called upon. His tip-in at the end of the game was a fitting moment, symbolizing the collective effort that brought this championship home.
Looking Ahead:
With this win, St. Rose is on the cusp of an undefeated season against Shore Conference competition. They will face tough opponents in the upcoming NJSIAA Non-Public B playoffs, but with their newfound confidence and dominant defense, they are ready for the challenge. The ultimate goal: a first-ever NJSIAA Non-Public B championship and potentially the #1 ranking in the state!
