On Saturday morning the Varsity Boys Bowling team competed in the NJSIAA State Sectional Tournament for Central NJ. They competed in Group 1. As you probably know, the groupings in the state are based on school size. Group 1 being the smallest schools which I believe constitutes less than 800 students and Group 4 being the largest schools.
We were the favorite going into this competition and the boys did not disappoint. They finished with a score of 3073 for the three games which put us in first place within our group. Matawan placed 2nd with a score of 2995.
Carter Vanderslice led the way opening with a 279 game and finishing with a 679 series!
What this means is that the boys are now eligible to bowl in the NJ State Bowling Tournament of Champions to be held at Bolero Lanes in North Brunswick on Monday, February 12th at 9am. We will compete against the other 9 state finalists from around the state for the title of "NJ Group 1 State Champion". Later in the same day, the four different Group Champions will have an additional competition to be named "State Champion".
In addition, Carter's series of 679 put him in the top 18 scores of the day and he is now eligible to bowl in the NJ State Individual Bowling Tournament to be held at Bolero Lanes on Wednesday, February 14th at 9am. February 14th is also Ash Wednesday.
