Dear St. Rose High School Class of 2022, 2023, & 2024:
St. Rose High School is committed to 21st Century learning through the integration of technology into all teaching and learning programs. A broad range of technology tools are used every day to enhance quality learning experiences for students and to explicitly teach the skills required to be digitally savvy in an increasingly technologically reliant global community. This is especially true over the past sixteen months as St. Rose quickly shifted to 100% virtual learning in a matter of hours and embraced a hybrid model this past year. After having time to reflect on our students' use of technology and to further enhance these aims, we will be launching a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) program for the 2021-2022 school year.
In January of 2020 we completed a large-scale network/infrastructure project that included the transition to fiber optic dedicated internet services to support teaching and learning. Over the past five months we have tested a BYOD pilot with a group of students and have received positive outcomes. The access advantage—anytime, anywhere, any device—gives BYOD a significant benefit over more traditional technology integration models.
BYOD is an initiative that will allow students to use personal technology devices at school for educational purposes to meet their personalized learning needs under the direction of their teachers and the Technology Department. We will provide the ability to connect compatible devices to a filtered internet service.
While the program is required for Freshman, those students in the Class of 2022, 2023 and 2024 can choose whether or not to enroll in BYOD. Upperclassmen can enroll in the BYOD program at the start of each marking period but cannot enroll or leave the program at will. Students must complete the form linked below and share their intentions. Students who do not complete the form by 7/31 will automatically be enrolled in the BYOD program. To help you best understand the program, we encourage you to watch the video linked above and then check out the full list of requirements, policies and frequently asked questions by visiting www.srhsnj.com/byod. Technology is an essential part of learning at St. Rose High School. To be able to engage successfully in our information-rich society, students must be able to utilize technology appropriately and effectively. Many students' lives today are filled with technology that gives them continuous access to information and resources, enabling them to pursue interests and learning in their own way and at their own pace. The opportunities are limitless, borderless, and instantaneous. Thank you for your continued support and cooperation. Please feel free to reach out with any questions. We wish you a happy and healthy summer and look forward to welcoming everyone back in September. Very truly yours,
