Campus Ministry

The Campus Ministry department seeks to bridge the gap between class and Mass, by providing opportunities for students to encounter God in personal and profound ways. The Campus Ministry department offers a variety of clubs, groups, and programs to engage the students in dialogue about the Catholic Church and her teachings. A majority of these opportunities take place during the school day. Campus Ministry programs include - but are not limited to - Magnify, Catholic Athletes for Christ, Acoustic and Cinematic Spirituality, and the Liturgy Team. Programs are geared toward and for inquisitive minds - those just beginning their faith journey, or those solid in their faith.

I have spent over a decade working in or for the Church in some capacity. While traveling around the country with NET Ministries (2008-2011) I developed a love for Christ and the Church. Encouraged and excited by this gift of faith, I discerned the priesthood as a seminarian for the Diocese of Trenton for 3 years (2012-2015). After discovering that the Lord had other plans, I discerned out and sought to serve the Lord in other ways. This includes parish ministry, teaching high school theology, as well as Campus Ministry.

Programs

Magnify

“Those who love me I also love, and those who seek me find me.” - Proverbs 8:17

Magnify is a program designed to engage students in a discussion on various topics of faith. Topics may focus on a liturgical season or upcoming feast day, or they may be about a particular devotion, Church teaching, or ‘random’ aspects of the Church they may not be familiar with. Students are encouraged to submit topic suggestions for future discussion. Magnify meetings often include a short video, but primarily revolve around student based questions. Magnify is an informal program that meets during lunch/flex periods once a week.

CATHOLIC ATHLETES FOR CHRIST

Train yourself for devotion, for, while physical training is of limited value, devotion is valuable in every respect, since it holds a promise of life both for the present and for the future.” - 1 Timothy 4: 7-8

Catholic Athletes for Christ (CAC) is an opportunity for student athletes (and their supporters) to gather for prayer and wisdom to help make them better participants both on the field, and in the faith. CAC typically meets twice a month.

ACOUSTIC SPIRTUALITY

“My lips will shout for joy as I sing your praise.” - Psalm 71: 23

Acoustic Spirituality is a program designed to help students find God in all things. For many, silence is a scary thing, so we seek to fill that absence with music. What are we listening to? Is it bringing us to God? Here, we listen to some contemporary, popular songs and look for religious and spiritual concepts, while sharing songs that help bring us to a holy place. Acoustic Spirituality meets monthly.

CINEMATIC SPIRTUALITY

“Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.” - Philippians 4:8

Cinematic Spirituality is a program designed to open student’s minds to religious and spiritual ideas and concepts found in popular movies. After watching a film, students discuss one or two key elements of the movie and how we can find God in the film. Cinematic Spirituality meets monthly afterschool.

LITURGY TEAM

“Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God’s grace in its various forms.” - 1 Peter 4:10

The Liturgy Team is composed of students interested in getting involved more with the Liturgy in all its stages – planning to serving. Select Seniors are invited to serve as Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion during school liturgies, and students are invited to serve as lectors and altar servers. The Liturgy team will learn about the Mass and help put together the programs as well as regularly serve for our liturgical functions. The Liturgy Team will meet twice a month during flex/club days.
